Sigma rolls out a new ultra-wideangle
Sigma, producer of alternative optics to the main reflex makers, launched a new ultra-wideangle zoom lens for the APS-C format. The 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM (equiv. 12-24 mm) can cover a field angle between 114,5° and 75,7°. Equipped with a hypersonic motor, it is constructed with FLD glass elements, to compensate for chromatic aberrations, and uses an aspheric lens. Minimal focusing is is at 24 cm., and the maximum reproduction ratio is 1:7.8. The lens weighs 555 gr., has a diameter of 75 mm. and a length of 105.7 mm., including the integrated hood. As for underwater usage, we'll only have to wait until casings makers come up with dedicated zoom gears. Price should stay below 1000 €.

From Sony: two new compact cameras, housings to come
Sony presented three new point-and-shoot compacts: one in the W series and two in the T series. The latter two, marked TX9 and T99, according to the maker's published specs ,  will be equipped with dedicated housings, but availability has not been confirmed yet. The three new cameras will be marketed starting September 2010 and  will sport quite advanced technological solutions: new functions, also for underwater photography, like underwater 3D pan for the TX9. Both will feature wideangle zoom and 1 cm. focusing. Check out the specs in our Sony page.
